Recent article in SF Chronicle Nov 13, 2006 about Hung Liu's 160 foot long glass mural in the new terminal at Oakland International Airport of 80 flying red-crowned cranes. (Search "Liu" on www.sfgate.com for the article.) The glass was done in Germany.
Interesting idea of layering images by placing digital satellite photos of the Bay Area etched into glass placed behind the glass mural so that standing in front of the glass wall you see the mural with the clouds, fog and landscape features from the satellite plus you can see glimpses of the planes on the tarmac through all of it.
Another interesting feature is that the scale of the satellite images change gradually from one end of the mural to the other. As you walk in the direction of boarding the images are from further and further in altitude. As you walk by when arriving you are gradually zooming in to the Bay Area.
